It is tempting to write a quick ticket that briefly says, for example, "Login is not working", and then let the programmer figure out what's wrong. Let's remember what the goal of submitting a ticket is, though: get the bug fixed. Tue, 17 Aug 2010 07:59:01 EDT Cozi Tricks #1: Syntax Highlighting http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/Cozi-Tricks-1-Syntax-Highlighting.70.html As we have extensively upgraded and extended our Cozi recently, I recognized that most of us do use very few features, and might not even be aware what can be done with the beast. I therefore will start a serie of articles about the "hidden secrets of our Cozi" here There will be no special order or weight, I will just write them as they come in my mind. Personally spoken, I love the style Trac is using Pygments by default to present code in the repository browser view: Sat, 07 Aug 2010 14:17:40 EDT Importing your projects to github.com from Cozi SVN http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/Importing-your-projects-to-githubcom-from-Cozi-SVN.69.html I'd like to explain the process of moving and SVN repo to Github. There are limitations in what you can import because git and subversion are fundamentally different. In most cases it will not affect you, but in some circumstance, it will. I have explained the: potential difficulties here (8 minute video). Importing projects to github.com is relatively easy but there are some important considerations: Wed, 04 Aug 2010 00:23:01 EDT We've moved from subversion to GIT! http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/Weve-moved-from-subversion-to-GIT.68.html This article explains the reasons why, and to answer some common questions that arise from the move. Firstly, GIT has dozens of advantages over subversion. I'll not get into the techie details, but safe to say, it's a dream to work with, saving time and making complex operations a 'piece of cake'. But there are many other reasons for the move beyond individual developer satisfaction. The big plus with GIT is that it opens up collaboration in ways that are just not possible in subversion. I made a video about it: here (read more) Mon, 02 Aug 2010 08:54:52 EDT Pagesetter Replacement Therapy http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/Pagesetter-Replacement-Therapy.67.html The holy grail of content publishing - that's exactly what Pagesetter means to so many people. A little known fact is this multipurpose, do it all module was written on the train, by Jorn - to and from his way to work! Pagesetter is basically a database system, you can configure the schema and generate forms to display that data. With Pagesetter alone, you can do most tasks all with the same module. It's no wonder that that there was great disappointment when Jorn announced he would orphan all his modules due to the birth of his first child. Wed, 21 Jul 2010 02:53:58 EDT Update about Zikula 1.3.0 http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/Update-about-Zikula-130.66.html It's been quite a while since I publicly reported news from core development. We are reaching very near a public beta for Zikula 1.3.0 so now is a good time to give an update. Fri, 23 Apr 2010 12:48:29 EDT How to Become a HipHop Fan http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/How-to-Become-a-HipHop-Fan.65.html Yesterday Facebook announced the release of "HipHop for PHP". HipHop translates classic PHP code over to C++ for faster execution times with less CPU use. Wed, 03 Feb 2010 09:04:21 EST HTML5 http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/HTML5.64.html Yesterday Google announced to completely drop support for IE6 and although we know what hideous beast the IE6 was and that it deserves to die, there is a lot more behind that: Google really pushed forward towards HTML5 - google.com already is HTML5 and you can test Youtube in HTML5. Why are they so keen on it? Tue, 02 Feb 2010 07:58:31 EST Support Free Software http://blog.zikula.org/Blog/Support-Free-Software.63.html "Free software is not really about software in this fundamental sense; it's about bringing freedom to users through software.", says Benjamin Mako Hill of Free Software Foundation in his "Annual Free Software Foundation Membership Drive Appeal" and he explains why the fight for free software is more important than ever.
