Second VA outsourcing iteration finished

While Zikula 1.1.0 started with moving some first modules out of the core into the parked project, this trend will also continue in future.
The next minor feature release 1.2.0 brings not only gettext, but separates even more modules.
This article gives a short overview about those structural changes.

The 1.1.0 version introduced the following changes:

  • Avant_Go and WikiCode have been removed
  • MailUsers has been merged into Users
  • Members_List has been merged into Profile
  • Profile has been outsourced
  • Banners, HitCount, Referers, Stats and Top_List have been outsourced

Since yesterday the following modules are also in parked, intended for 1.2.0:
  • blank
  • Ratings
  • Recommend_Us
  • Thumbnail
  • Topics
  • The category modules: FAQ, Feeds, News, Pages, Quotes, Reviews
The core team will first take care of those modules and still incorporate architectural evolvements. However, new maintainers are needed to make them become real separate projects. So if you are interested in maintaining one of all these modules, please contact Mateo or the Zikula Steering Committee.

Just one additional hint for future: in Zikula 2.0.0 some system modules will be merged together. For example the backend modules of pnRender and pnForm went into Theme recently. Also Groups will become part of Users probably.

We wish all Zikulas out there a merry Christmas icon_wink

Just a little question (i didn't look at the code)

But ...

Are the template used identical (do we have to update our theme is we do template overriding) ?

Are the permission (do we have to update our permission ?)

thanks

Usually you can continue using your templates. However, after minor feature releases like 1.1.0 or 1.2.0 you should at least take a look if there are bigger changes...
