Zikula Network
One Mailing List to Rule Them All

The Zikula Foundation's Steering Committee has decided to dissolve the old division of mailing lists for core developers, team members and module developers. For today on there's only one mailing list - and it is open for all.
Ever since I joined the project there always was the super secret code developers mailing list and the teams list. Some months ago the module developers mailing list was installed to open a direct channel between core and 3rd party developers.
This has never been too transparent and it caused a lot of problems:
We hope to gain more transparency a lower hierarchy and more activity from this step.
Ever since I joined the project there always was the super secret code developers mailing list and the teams list. Some months ago the module developers mailing list was installed to open a direct channel between core and 3rd party developers.
This has never been too transparent and it caused a lot of problems:
- It was quite hard to get onto the core developers mailing list - mostly you got there through personal invitation. But there was now real way to leave the list. If people became inactive, they remained on the list. In the end active and good developers were not on the list while a lot of inactive people were on it.
- We needed someone to report from the list - about the plans and discussions there and so on. I tried to do that. Simon tried to do that. Arjen tried to do that. But then other things become more important and you end up with noone reporting.
- There were hardly any discussions there, that required the secrecy. Quite the opposite: Many could have used community input.
- Discussions were often started on the wrong list: team matters were started on the core list and vice versa.
We hope to gain more transparency a lower hierarchy and more activity from this step.
