Move Camp Zikula into Spring-Time?

Axel and I learned a lot at the Mentor Summit about the way other communities handle their Google Summer of Code projects: Most of all we missed a chance to really include the students into the community and we like to change that for next year. One idea is to move Camp Zikula into the "bonding phase" of Google's Summer of Code and invite the students.
pnMeeting and Camp Zikula always happened to be in late Summer simply for the reason that it started out with the idea of a barbeque. But there is no obligation to let it stay that way. Instead we could use it also as an introductory meeting with the students who work with us during the Google Summer of Code. They could get to know their mentors in person and all the other developers who they can ask for support in their later work.
It's always easier to clarify things face to face than via mail or chat, so this might be a good idea. As we can't expect all students to pay for a trip to Germany, I'd suggest to invite them and pay their flight and hotel. We receive 500$ for every successful project from Google. This could be used to pay for the expenses.
What do you think? Is a Camp Zikula in April/May a good idea?

yes and no...
There are two reasons to have the camp in summer.
1st is to have university location available. The have a great infrastructure to use for the camp.
2nd: We have some pupils in our middle. They will not participate outside holyday.
But otherwise: If we can have direct contact with the Google's summer of code students, it can boost our project.
difficult to descide...

@1: As we camp on a weekend universities won't be too crowded during lecture season.
@2: I talked to GF who seems to be the only student whose school opens on Saturdays. Usually a weekend shouldn't be more of a problem to a student than to a working person.
There will never be a perfect date for anything
But please - more opinions?

It is a great idea to incorporate the SoC students into our annual meeting, since it enhances the value of the whole Camp. But it isn't really necessary to move the event to spring because of that.
Summer of Code lasts until the end of October, so August would still also be nice.

The idea was to introduce the student to the people they work with. You know that personal contact makes things a lot easier.
