Module Files available

The version RC1 of the module Files is available. You can download the module from here or test it creating a new account here (in this web site is included the Xinha plug-in). Please test it and report any bug or do as many suggestions as you want in the address typed below:

http://code.zikula.org/multizk (create your tickets)

This module is part of the bigger module Multisites (soon also available), but it can work alone.

The module Files allow users to manage their own files. They can upload, rename, delete, zip and unzip files and folders. The users can decide if a folder is public or private. If a folder is set as public files stored in it are accessible trough the file file.php.

The administrators can set different quotas for different groups of users.

Soon the module will have a plug-in for Xinha that will allow users to add images to their posts easily.

The module includes a guided installation. During the installation you will find the needed instructions.

The module needs a folder where to store the users' files. In preference this folder must be located out of the public HTML.

The module needs also a file named file.php, which must be located in the root of the Zikula installation. This file is needed to get the files from the public directories of the users. You can find this file in the folder modules, so you have to move it during the installation.

Great!
Great News Albert!

I've seen this module in dev state and it works like a charm.

Today scribite! 4.0 has been released and the Xinha package includes the plugin for this module.
So everyone using Files should use scribite 4.0 / Xinha package from now on.

Zikula comes up with great new tools. This is a long needed feature for user interaction.

Uppercase file extensions
Very nice! I did just try it out on the demo site. Works great, but file extensions have to be lowercase. I submitted a ticket.

Also, it would be better if the list of images in the Xinha plugin would show thumbnails.

Thanks for your hard work, this is looking like it will be great and easy to use! :)

Great, but why not Relay?
Hi!

I test it yesterday. It's works fine.

But i know the module "Relay" from Mateo (http://code.zikula.org/relay).
It is an Filemanagement with nice Ajax-based Userinterface, own integrated permission-system, multi-path-management and a lot of other fantastic functions.

Why you dont need this module and complete it together to an perfect file-management-module for zikula?

Jens.

Tested the SVN version
The SVN version is looking REALLY good. I tested on Dec 21, 2009 and everything was working great in the Files module itself. The only problem I had was with the Scribite/Xinha plugin -- the button appears but nothing happens when it is clicked. I tried clearing my browser cache, ran CCleaner on my PC and rebooting, but to no avail. If the Xinha plugin can be fixed, you can be sure I'll use Files over all other media modules.

Try to meet all your requests in the coming days
Thank you all for your comments and tickets. As you can see I've fixed some of them I'll try to fix other in the next days.

I haven't tested the module Relay, but I'll do it. Anyway I think that it is better maintain separated modules and create the needed interdependences to work together. Divide and conquer!

Users not getting access?
I installed this on a test site, and I'm not seeing the ability to use it as a regular user, am I missing something in the configuration that I'm just over looking?

Add permissions are needed
Only can add and manage their files the users with add permissions in the module files.

Try with a permission like this:

All groups Files:: .* Add access
