A while ago several Value Addon modules had been separated from the core. This article gives a short overview about what is happening to them and how you can help with that.

In last couple of days I dug deep into the Zikula theme system to find some very cool stuff: Themevariables are my latest discovery. But I also found the whole system pretty inconsistent. I know the development team is already working on the (re-)integration of pnRender and Theme. But there is more to it than just combining the two.

For a good while I was thinking about a bigger cut in the core which I want to discuss, as I wondered if we are perhaps doing too much unneeded effort with the 2.0 core. During the first steps to our new architecture (see this earlier post) doubts came into my mind about what we *are doing* and what we *should do*.

This year Camp Zikula will be August 14th-16th in Georgsmarienhütte near Osnabrück, Germany.

The Google Summer of Code 2009 has begun - at least for the organizations: Until March 13th we have time to apply and we will apply. Simon is already working our the application.

Modularity is the major strength of Zikula - years of preaching and teaching succeeded in a lot of really modular solutions: No content module contains its own WYSIWYG-editor or comment function anymore. And that is good. While working on foerdefluesterer.de I realized the disadvantage of this approach - or fact that it's not fully implemented yet: Avatars are being handled differently in each and every module...

Gears is a big step forward in developing rich Internet applications. Gears is not “just” for making an application work offline. It can enhance Web applications in many, many ways, bringing those applications one step closer to desktop applications. REad moreabout it here.

He did lots of testing already, opened several tickets, made suggestions for improvement, streamlined templates and css and now he moved over to the dark side of power being able to commit to svn and close tickets: Carsten Volmer aka herr.vorragend is now officially a core developer.
